“As long as we maintain the momentum
of movement in each moment
then we’ll always find a way momentously.”
~Mikavelli~
A popular quote that has circulated social media in recent years is the saying that “Life is not linear”. What this means is that there are cycles and waves of each journey. Using the sea and ocean as an analogy, there are the first stages of the shoreline, where it is like a comfort zone, a safety net where one starts to gauge the mysteries and possibilities of the sea, entertaining the idea of “going with the flow”. Sometimes the shoreline is prickly, with stones and shells poking at our feet; other times it is smooth and soothing, as we dig our toes into the softness of the sand.
We take a deep breath then wade through the waves, that stage when we start to uncover our own truths and realities of the present, and the initial parts where it all becomes a murky blur as the waters wash against the sand. The waves wash up against us and hit us in the face repeatedly, sometimes stinging our eyes, sometimes we choke or cough up the salt. We are motivated and committed to getting through this stage, to going deeper, and growing stronger. Sometimes it’s daunting, sometimes refreshing; sometimes it’s unnerving, sometimes exciting. We start to grow with the flow…
After that, we become accustomed to the temperature of the water and start to swim against the resistance of the waves. We go into deeper waters, paddling, swimming, submerging, emerging. We delve and dive into the process as the progress becomes part of us. We stabilise and familiarise ourselves with the water and keep breathing. As we go deeper, further out into the depths, leaving our comfort zones, the sand washes away from our toes, the sun reflects on our skin, and we embrace that sensation of being one with the waves. We then glow with the flow…
The deeper we go, the less resistance we feel, and soon we float along with the current until we hit a point of complete stillness. Yet in the stillness, there are only more mysteries and unknowns — the creatures of the sky and sea, are they friend or foe? The more we experience, the more we know. We also learn to know the flow…
It is usually at this stage of the journey that we begin to ask ourselves — is it the enjoyment of journey or the accomplishment of a destination, the certainty of the shoreline, the progress of the process? It could be all of it, and remember that swimming is also about breathing. We get to where we want to be and love everything about it, knowing that if we ever lose our bearings then the one constant that becomes our guidance is the position of the Sun, which always rises in the East and sets in the West.
In the stillness, the light becomes our natural guide, and in the dark, the moon reflects the sun.
Sometimes we resist, and find ourselves struggling; then we recharge, and the water becomes rejuvenating.
We relax and surrender but we don’t give up, we stop resisting. We embrace the body of water that embodies us in that moment. Embodies, but does not consume. We are renewed as we become whole with the flow.
We keep at it, and naturally it gets easier to keep swimming, to keep growing stronger, to keep glowing brighter.
As long as we maintain the momentum of movement in each moment then we’ll always find a way momentously.
Life… is like an ocean… it is always whole, and never linear.
Shared with love,
Mikavelli
